All of our physicians are board certified.
Kevin M.J. Harvey, M.D. FAAFP
Drs. Kevin and Lorena Harvey founded Physicians of Family Medicine in 1987. He graduated from Fordham University, served in the Medical Corps in Vietnam and returned home to enroll in the MS/Ph D program at New York University.
He started medical school at the University of Guadalajara where he met Dr. Lorena. He completed his studies and transferred to complete a Fifth Pathway at New York Medical College. His internship and residency were at St. Joseph's Medical Center in New York where he served as chief resident.
Upon graduation he stayed on as faculty with the position of Assistant Director of the residency program. He completed a fellowship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Dr Kevin Harvey currently serves as the medical director of Physicians of Family Medicine and Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at CJW Medical Center.
Lorena L. Harvey, M.D. FAAF
Dr. Lorena Harvey received her Doctoral degree of Physician / Surgeon from University of Guadalajara. She subsequently trained in New York, completing her internship and residency in Family Medicine at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Westchester, New York, affliated with New York Medical College.
She was honored during her residency as the recipient of the Outstanding Resident Award presented by the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. Dr. Lorena completed her fellowship in Family Medicine through Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She co-founded Physicians of Family Medicine in 1987.
Dr. Lorena lives in Woodlake with her husband Dr. Kevin Harvey and her daughter Alejandra.
Robert D. Cross, M.D. FAAFP
Dr. Robert Cross obtained his medical degree at University of Virginia in 1985. He completed his residency training at Family Medicine Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. He is Board Certified with the American Board of Family Medicine and is a fellow with the American Academy of Family Practice.
Dr. Cross is a native of Richmond and is married with four children. He is a member of Sycamore Presbyterian Church and enjoys spending time with family, tennis and sailing.
Heather E. Maddox, M.D.
Dr. Heather Maddox is a native of Richmond. She is married and has two children. She received a BA in Biology a the University of Virginia and medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2000. She completed a residency in Family Medicine at Riverside Family Practice in Newport News and joined Physicians of Family Medicine upon completion in 2003.
Dr. Maddox is well-trained in all aspects of family care, especially women's health. She has recently received training on the use of cosmetic laser and will be offering these services in the future.
James F. Bampton, M.D.
Dr. James Bampton received his medical degree from Medical College of Virginia in 1994. He completed his Family Practice residency at Riverside Family Practice, in Newport News, Virginia. He is Board Certified in Family Medicine and has completed a fellowship specializing in office procedures and colonoscopy.
Dr. Bampton returned to his hometown and joined Physicians of Family Medicine in 2005, after spending seven years medically caring for Southwest Native Americans. He is married with three children and enjoys outdoor activities, reading and spending time with his family.
Ericka S. Young, DO
Dr. Young completed her undergraduate degree at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina. She attended medical school where she received her D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathy) at The New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, New York.
Being born in Petersburg and raised in Virginia, Dr. Young desired to return to Richmond to practice medicine. She recently completed her residency at Chesterfield Family Practice before joining Physicians of Family Medicine.
